What is The Shoreline Rescue Club?
The Shoreline Rescue Club is a community-driven beach cleanup initiative that brings people together across British Columbia to protect and restore the coastline. Since the Spring of 2025, we've been gathering at different beaches, on the mainland and the islands, to remove plastic waste and other debris. Everyone is welcome to join, whether you're a lifelong local, an outdoor enthusiast, or simply looking for a meaningful way to give back.
Who We Are
The Shoreline Rescue Club is a community of people who care about the places we call home. We're surfers, hikers, runners, students, teachers, families, and outdoor enthusiasts who believe small actions can make a big difference when people come together.
Our mission is simple: protect and restore British Columbia's coastlines while building a community of people who want to create positive change. Through monthly beach cleanups on both the mainland and the islands, we bring together volunteers who share a love for the ocean, the environment, and giving back.
Whether you're looking to make an impact, meet like-minded people, spend more time outdoors, or simply leave a beach better than you found it, you'll find a welcoming community here. Every piece of litter removed is a step toward healthier shorelines, and every cleanup is an opportunity to connect with others who care about protecting these incredible places for future generations.
Why It Matters
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to our oceans. Each year, millions of tons of plastic waste enter marine ecosystems, breaking down into micro-plastics that contaminate our water, harm marine life, and eventually make their way into our food supply. According to a study by the Ocean Conservancy, over 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year, endangering species from seabirds to whales. By removing plastic from our coastlines before it reaches the water, we not only protect marine ecosystems but also preserve the natural beauty of our beaches, ensuring that the only thing we leave behind are footprints.
How It Works
It's simple. We bring the supplies, and you bring yourself.
Each month, we gather at a different beach across British Columbia and spend a couple of hours removing litter, plastic waste, and debris from the shoreline. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to pitch in and make a difference.
After the cleanup, we sort everything we collect into garbage, recycling, and refundable containers. Wherever possible, we recycle or upcycle materials to keep as much waste as possible out of landfills and our oceans.
Many of our cleanups are supported by amazing local businesses that provide complimentary snacks, drinks, prizes, and other goodies for volunteers. It's a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, enjoy the outdoors, and leave the beach better than you found it.
Show up, help out, have fun, and be part of a community that's making a real impact on BC's coastlines.
